Models of Strategic Deficiency and Poker

چکیده
Since Emile Borel’s study in 1938, the game of poker has resurfaced every decade as a test bed for research in mathematics, economics, game theory, and now a variety of computer science subfields. Poker is an excellent domain for AI research because it is a game of imperfect information and a game where opponent modeling can yield virtually unlimited complexity. Recent strides in poker research have produced computer programs that can outplay most intermediate players, but there is still a significant gap between computer programs and human experts due to the lack of accurate, purposeful opponent models. We present a method for constructing models of strategic deficiency, that is, an opponent model with an inherent roadmap for exploitation. In our model, a player using this method is able to outperform even the best static player when playing against a wide variety of oppo-

A Zero-Knowledge Poker Protocol That Achieves Confidentiality of the Players' Strategy or How to Achieve an Electronic Poker Face
Many attempts have been previously made to achieve a protocol that would allow people to play mental poker [SRA, GM1, BF, FM, Yu, Cr] (I would rather say electronic poker). But no solution has ever come close to reality with respect to poker strategy. Poker players usually claim that luck has nothing to do with their gains. In fact, poker is a very strategic game. Often, an inexperienced player...
متن کاملQuantized Poker
Poker has become a popular pastime all over the world. At any given moment one can find tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of players playing poker via their computers on the major on-line gaming sites. Indeed, according to the Vancouver, B.C. based pokerpulse.com estimates, more than 190 million US dollars daily is bet in on-line poker rooms. But communication and computation are changing as ...
متن کاملA heads-up no-limit Texas Hold'em poker player: discretized betting models and automatically generated equilibrium-finding programs
We present Tartanian, a game theory-based player for headsup no-limit Texas Hold’em poker. Tartanian is built from three components. First, to deal with the virtually infinite strategy space of no-limit poker, we develop a discretized betting model designed to capture the most important strategic choices in the game. Second, we employ potential-aware automated abstraction algorithms for identif...
متن کاملInformation encryption in the expert management of strategic uncertainty
Strategic agents in incomplete-information environments have a conflicted relationship with uncertainty: it can keep them unpredictable to their opponents, but it must also be overcome to predict the actions of those opponents. We use a multivariate generalization of information theory to characterize the information processing behavior of strategic reasoning experts. We compare expert and novi...
متن کاملComputing Human-Understandable Strategies: Deducing Fundamental Rules of Poker Strategy
Algorithms for equilibrium computation generally make no attempt to ensure that the 1 computed strategies are understandable by humans. For instance the strategies for the strongest 2 poker agents are represented as massive binary files. In many situations, we would like to compute 3 strategies that can actually be implemented by humans, who may have computational limitations and 4 may only be ...
